Admissions

The program is currently accepting applications for entry into the Psy.D. program for Fall 2009. A review of applications will begin in January 2009, with interviews beginning in February 2009. Candidates will be offered admission on a rolling basis until the two cohorts are full, so early application is recommended.

Union Institute & University’s Psy.D. Program welcomes applications from professionals in mental health, education, and human services, as well as people who have completed undergraduate majors in psychology, social work and other related fields. We are particularly interested in applications from people with a strong commitment to working to achieve a more just world.

You can apply online or download the Psy.D. application.

Prior Academic Preparation

Applications are accepted from those with bachelor’s or master’s degrees from accredited institutions. Most applicants have earned undergraduate or graduate degrees in psychology, social work, education, or other related professions, but this is not a requirement.

Applicants with a bachelor’s degree and with some graduate coursework can request to transfer up to 12 graduate credits from other accredited institutions. If accepted, those credits will count towards the 124 credits needed to graduate from the program.

Applicants with an earned master's degree may apply for Advanced Standing in the Psy.D. Program. These learners may be able to complete the program’s coursework at UI&U in less than four years of coursework. For further information, see Course Transfer/Advanced Standing Policy.

Please note: Course transfer and Advanced Standing may be requested by petition only after the learner has been formally admitted to the Program and prior to the beginning of the learner’s first term in the program.

International Learners

Thank you for your interest in our program.  We regret that, at this time, we are not able to admit international learners to programs that require attendance at a meeting, residency or colloquium held within the U.S. Many changes have been implemented in immigration policies in the United States within the past few years. The Department of Homeland Security, the agency that oversees immigration, has classified programs at Union Institute & University as “distance learning,” and schools in this category may not enroll learners on student visas. Even though you would not reside in the U.S. for the duration of your program, you do need to be able to enter the U.S. with a valid student visa to attend the required meeting, colloquium and residencies at our institution. The regulations currently restrict us from providing you with the necessary paperwork to obtain a student visa, and students engaged in full-time or part-time study may not enter the U.S. on some other status, such as a visitor.

This does not apply to our undergraduate programs, which are able to be completed entirely at a distance.
